A study by Virginia Commonwealth University school of management has shown that bringing dogs to work reduces stress levels both for their owners and for those without dogs.
Since work related employee stress is the number one threat facing business this study—and others which have come to similar conclusions over the last few years—this should be taken very seriously. Having dogs at work also increases job satisfaction and commitment. Quite a few firms in the US and Canada now allow dogs to come to work with their owners. The results are not too dissimilar to those showing that women who have their infants in a crèche at work are happier, more productive and more engaged.
